In this #FAQFriday blog post, we cover Trustboxes, the lightweight widgets used by our clients to increase their conversions, sales, and revenue on strategic pages on their site.

TrustBoxes, which are Trustpilot’s widgets, are an easy way for your business to display their reputation directly on-site, using the feedback collected from past customers to build trust with new shoppers.

In their TrustBox Library, our clients have a selection of TrustBoxes widgets to choose from to showcase their reviews, TrustScore, and star rating, giving shoppers the validation they need to make a purchase.

While deciding to implement a TrustBox may be an easy no-brainer, the practical side of TrustBoxes is not as obvious. Over the past year, our Customer Success teams have received some very relevant questions regarding TrustBox implementation strategy. In the spirit of knowledge sharing, we’ve included the Q&As in this article.

For more information about our TrustBoxes, check out our blog articles giving you the run down on TrustBoxes, our TrustBox Optimiser tool, and how fast TrustBoxes load on your site (spoiler alert: they load very fast).

Q: How many reviews do I need to have before implementing a TrustBox widget?

A: We recommend having at least 10 reviews before implementing a TrustBox on your website to ensure there is substantial review content that your site visitors will find beneficial.

Q: What TrustScore or star rating should I have before implementing a TrustBox widget?

A: Our Customer Success Managers recommend reaching a TrustScore of 6-10 or a star rating between 3-5. These ratings are sought after by customers and have a positive influence on their purchasing decisions. If you have not reached this rating we recommend collecting more reviews to increase your score. In our experience, companies that have a higher number of reviews typically have a higher rating.

If your TrustScore or star rating are not quite where you would like, we also offer a simple TrustBox widget, called the Micro TrustBox, that does not display your TrustScore or star rating, but still communicates “You can trust us”.

Q: Can I select which reviews I want to appear in my TrustBox widget?

A: Yes, it is possible to configure your TrustBoxes differently to display the reviews you want to showcase. Here are the options you have:

  1. Reviews by star rating - Display reviews with your selected star rating (e.g. 4 star, 5 star)
  2. Select your favorites - Display your favorite reviews that you’ve manually selected
  3. Latest reviews - Display your most recent reviews
  4. Your reviews by tag - If you've set up pre-tagging, you can display reviews by those tags.

Q: Can TrustBoxes get me Rich Snippet Stars in Google searches?

A: Yes, both our Service Review and Product Review SEO TrustBoxes can get you Rich Snippet Stars in organic search results. (Note: this feature is only available for Pro and Enterprise clients)

Q: What is the best placement for TrustBox widgets?

A: Optimal placement is dependent on your website and type of business. We recommend doing some basic A/B tests to determine where your reviews have the most impact.

We often see our customers achieve the greatest results by having TrustBoxes on their homepage and checkout page, and product reviews on their product pages. You can also place different TrustBoxes on each web page to offer unique review content. Make sure your TrustBoxes are placed in a position where they attract attention and are not hidden with a lot of visual distraction.

Here is a placement example from one of our customers, Vivint, that proved to be very successful. After implementing a Carousel TrustBox they experienced a 12% increase in onsite conversion and a 13% increase in sales.

Q: Can I change the design of a TrustBox widget to better suit my website?

A: Yes, if the TrustBoxes do not meet your design requirements, you are free to use our APIs to design them the way you would like. (Note: this is only available for Enterprise clients)

Check out how some of our customers designed their TrustBox widgets to fit perfectly with their website design:
